Subliminal Messaging Explained

Many people do not really understand the concept of subliminal messaging, and it’s understandable considering how it’s not a widely known phenomenon. So what exactly is subliminal messaging? It is a technique whereby messages are conveyed to the subconscious, rather than through the conventional consciousness.

Subliminal messaging is a technique where messages are conveyed to the subconscious mind instead of the conscious. These messages are usually in the form of print, audio, or video, and are designed in a way that they fall below a person’s normal aural threshold. Images are flashed faster than the eye can see, and sounds are played at a frequency beyond that of a normal human’s ability to perceive consciously

However, just because a person may not be able to consciously detect and decipher these messages, does not mean that the subconscious is unable to. In fact, on a subconscious level, these subliminal messages can still be deciphered and processed.

Subliminal messaging is all around us. Yet our conscious mind treats the subliminal messages around us as “background” noise because of how redundant the information usually seems to the conscious mind. After all, if the mind were to take in every possible information around us it would be somewhat overwhelming to the senses. Thus, the information is relegated as redundant, yet our minds are still subconsciously aware of it.

For example, you may currently be engaged in a conversation with a friend, when you see another friend from the corner of your eyes. You recognize the person, yet you’re deeply engaged in the conversation at hand that the other friend fades into the background, until they wave at you from a distance. The minute they do, your mind, which has subconsciously been noting the person’s presence, will now make it known to you consciously that some form of response is required of you, and you wave back.

Subliminal messaging works along the same line in the fact that even though you might not be aware of the messages you are receiving, your subconscious is still processing and deciphering the information you are receiving. Words have the power to influence people on a conscious level, so even subconsciously, words can influence our thought patterns and eventual behavior. In the case of subliminal affirmations, they can be used to positively influence our minds for the betterment of ourselves. But just like anything in life, subliminal messaging can be used for either good or bad purposes. While there may be some conspiracy theorists who claim that subliminal messaging is; in the sense that it can manipulate one’s actions (by either making consumers purchase a particular brand or making voters vote a certain politician through subliminal ad campaigns), subliminal messaging can in fact be used for good. Many people are realizing that self-help subliminal audios can be beneficial to them, and with an industry that is valued around $50 million today, it shows that people do have faith in subliminal messaging. They are using subliminal messaging to unlock their true potential and improve the quality of their lives. All subliminal messaging does is to unlock the full potential of your mind by using the parts of your brain that you are not already using consciously. While some may argue that this may lead to some form of manipulation, when used right, subliminal messaging can lead to the betterment of your self and the quality of your life.
